Eric Robert Johnson, 50, a lifetime Level 2 sex offender, admitted to one count of child porn possession Monday, Jan. 29, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. He faces a minimum of 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in May.
Johnson was arrested in February 2022 after police searched his home and found 25 electronic devices, including laptops, hard drives, and other electronic devices, investigators said. The devices were stashed around his house, including in crawl spaces and ammo boxes.
He was in the process of erasing a hard drive when police caught him, authorities said.
Forensic investigators were able to find 5,000 images of child sexual abuse material on the devices they could decrypt from Johnson's home. Some of the devices could not be decrypted.
Police also found several mutilated dolls with holes cut in their vaginal region, the prosecutor said. They also located bookbags beneath Johnson's bed that had kid's clothes, bathing suits, a nightgown, and costumes, the prosecutor said.
Officers noticed children's diapers all over the home as well.
Johnson was convicted of two counts of forcible rape of a child in New Hampshire in 1992.
